Santos Salinas Garza's Obituary
A Caholic funeral service Mass will be celebrated for Santos Salinas Garza, age 88 of Lamesa, Texas, at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at St. Margaret Mary Cahtolic Church of Lamesa, Texas, with Father Joseph Kurumbel officiating. Burial will follow to Dawson County Cemetery. Funeral arrangments are under the care and direction of Gonzales Funeral Home of Lamesa, Texas.
Santos Salinas Garza passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 26, 2016 in Lubbock, Texas surrounded by family. She was born on October 3, 1927 in Yorktown, Texas to Serapio and Maria Salinas.
A celebration of her life will begin with visitation and viewing at Gonzales Funeral Home on Monday and Tuesday with a Rosary service set for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel.
Santos was the eldest of 13 children and had no real formal education by she was never afraid to take a challenge in life. Her accomplishments included;. operating and managing a clothing department store for twenty years, and working in the restaurant industry.
Once retired, family and friends were Santos' passion and delight. She enjoyed playing dominos, watching and attending baseball games with her late husband. She always looked forward to spending time with her Compres and Commadres, telling stories and reminiscing about things in the past. In 1954, Santos married Dionicio Garza and they were inseparable until is death in December 2015.
Santos was preceded in death by her parents, Serapio and Maria Salinas, brother, Serapio Salinas; sisters, Beatrice Valdes and Janie Garcia.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Serapio (Sonny) Garza and wife, Sylvia of Lubbock, Texas and Dionicio Garza,Jr. of Lamesa, Texas; grandchildren, Erik, Erin, Stephen, Ausha, Joshua and Timothy; great-grandchildren, Madisyn and Ayden; siblings, Lupe Rios of San Antonio, Texas, Minnie Longoria of San Antonio, Texas, Elvira Ortega of Port LaVaca, Texas, Maria Garza of Lamesa, Texas, Sobeida Longoria of Kenedy, Texas, Felicita Salinas of Victoria, Texas, Sarah Flores of Rosenburg, Texas, Roy Salinas of Lamesa, Texas and Jesse Salinas of Rosenburg, Texas.
