SANTOS VERA's Obituary
Funeral services for Santos Vera age 90 of Lamesa, TX. will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday May 10, 2017 at the Church of the Nazarene in Lamesa, TX. with Hermano Heriberto Sierra officiating. Interment will follow to Dawson County Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Gonzales Funeral Home of Lamesa, TX.
Viewing will be held on Monday and Tuesday May 8th and 9th at Gonzales Funeral Home. An Inspirational service will be held on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel.
Santos passed away on Saturday May 6, 2017 in Austin, Texas. He was born on February 13, 1927 in Runge, Texas. Santos married Emma Garcia on June 7, 1947 in Mathis, TX.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Garcia Vera; his daughter, Esmeralda Vera Lopez; his parents, Adolfo Vera, Sr. and Jesusa Martinez Vera; his brother, Adolfo Vera, Jr.; his sister, Jesusa Salinas.
As a young man, Santos Vera provided for his family by working ranches, farms and oil fields. At home, he kept busy maintaining equipment, cars and the family garden. In his retirement, he enjoyed listening to Texas conjunto music and often reminisced of his love of dancing. He loved his large and extended family and enjoyed road trips to visit near and far when he could. He looked forward to joining his beautiful wife Emma who is with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was so loved and will truly be missed.
The family thanks Rev. Lee Lennon and the Church of the Nazarene in Lamesa, TX. for their services and facilities. We thank Hermano Heriberto Sierra for his mininstry. Special thanks to the staff at Southpark Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Heart to Heart Hospice in Austin, TX. for their care and dedication.
Santos is survived by his loving family, his daughters, Margarita Hartwig and Geof of Austin, TX., Lenor Contreras and Ismael of Lamesa, TX.; his sons, Santos Vera, Jr. and Carmen of Del Rio, TX., Joe A. Vera and Mary of Midland, TX., George Vera and Paula of Rogers, AK., John Vera and Rosemary of Midland, TX.; 25 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; his sisters, Romana Olivares of Hereford, TX., Teresa Villareal of Alice, TX.
