PAUL LOPEZ SR's Obituary
Paul Lopez, Sr., age 76, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family, who remained by his side until the very end.
Born on December 12, 1949, in Hargill, Texas, Paul spent much of is life in Lamesa, Texas. He was known for his hardworking spirit, love of family, and appreciation for the outdoors.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Jose C. Lopez and Maria De Jesusa Lopez; his brother, Samuel Montemayor, and his sister, Julia Pineda.
He is survived by his sister, Sylvia Alvarez and family; his daughter, Mary Ann Lopez and fiancé Wayne; his daughter, Sylvia Lopez and wife Karla; his son, Paul Lopez, Jr.; his son, Michael Lopez and wife Darlene; and his son, Ernest Lopez and wife Jessica.
Paul was a proud grandfather to Alex, Victoria, Ariel, Elijah, Issac, Thadeous, Nicole, Amber, and Jacob, and a loving great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Paul began his working life in the farm fields before finding his passion in the West Texas oil patch, where he worked as a truck driver and swamper until an accident in 1984. He later enjoyed mechanic work and eventually discovered his true gift in landscaping. Family and friends often said that everything Paul touched turned green.
In his free time, Paul loved fishing and camping and cherished every opportunity to spend time outdoors with his family.
Paul will be remembered for his hard work, his love of nature, his generous heart, and his devotion to his family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

A Catholic funeral mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in loving memory of Paul Lopez, Sr. at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with officiant Father George Poonely. Family and friends will gather to pray and give thanks for his life. May perpetual light shine upon him. The burial committal will follow to the Dawson County Cemetery. A reception will be held after the burial committal service at St. Margaret Mary fellowship hall.
Funeral arrangements are under the trust care and direction of Gonzales Funeral Home.
The viewing will be held at Gonzales Funeral Home on Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the Holy Rosary prayer service on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel.
