MARIE MITCHELL's Obituary
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Marie Mitchell age 88 of Lamesa, TX. will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2025, at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Pastor Ira Kelly officiating. The burial committal will follow to the Dawson County Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Gonzales Funeral Home.
The viewing will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Gonzales Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Marie passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, in Lubbock, TX. She was born on July 8, 1936 in Gonzales, TX.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Roshell and Eula Mae Mitchell; son, Alfred “Mickey” Sims; stepmother, Connie Mitchell; brother, Horace; sister, Sharon Bright; grandson, Jermaine; great-grand-daughter, Champane Woods.
After Marie was born in Gonzales, TX., the family later moved to San Antonio, TX. , where she attended school, afterwards her family moved to Lamesa, TX. where she attended Blackshear School. Marie’s mother passed away when Marie was 11 years old. Marie worked a lot until her illness; she took great care of her family as well as many other families and friends. Marie was a very good cook and would often give her delicious food to family and friends. Marie had the gift of speaking and would often be invited to speak at funerals and community events. Marie was loved by so many people and she will surely be missed.
Those left to cherish Maire’s memory are her children, son, Azizi, and Bobbie Joe, and her daughter, Cheryl, all of Lamesa, TX.; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren; numerus relatives and friends.
