Conejo passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, August 18, 2025, in Lubbock, TX. He was born on October 30, 1947, in La Feria, TX. Conejo married Elida Saenz on February 2, 1966, in Lamesa, TX.
Conejo was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Gonzales and Maria Garcia Gonzales; brothers, Louis Gonzales, and Arturo Gonzales; sister, Olga Gonzales Urias; granddaughter, Drevalyn Davine Gonzales.
He was a hairdresser for about 32 years and owned several shops in Lamesa. While living in Lamesa, he was always surrounded by immediate family members. He and Elida had a lot of friends, too many to mention. One of their pastimes was playing cards, dancing, and going to the Bingo. Conejo was selfless: he didn’t know how to say, “no”. He did not know the definition of the word “stranger”, as he had picked up his fair share of hitch hikers stranded on the highway without thinking twice about it.
After he retired, he and Elida moved to Lubbock, TX., where he continued his career in sales. He was a go-getter and worked passionately to provide for his family. Nothing was too difficult to obtain.
Conejo had many hats in his life, but the one that stuck with him the most was Grandpa. All 16 of his grandchildren will miss his smile, laughter, and banter. While there are not enough words to describe the weight of his presence in everyone’s lives, it can be said that to know him was to know true humility in its purest form. His charity and passion have progressed into a legacy that is reflected in the people that remember him.
Survivors included his beloved wife of 59 years, Elida Saen Gonzales, his son, Louis Gonzales and daughter-in-law Debra, and their daughters Sarah and Isabella of Lubbock, TX.; daughter, Michelle Gonzales, and her son Di’Angelo Dodson, daughter Alexis Dodson, and great-granddaughters, Zaylee Dixon and Destiny Newman of Lubbock, TX.; daughter Liza Gonzales, her wife Chelsea Conde, their children, Dravin, Sabian, Layla, and Savannah Gonzales of Lubbock, TX.; daughter, Margie Magallan and son-in-law, Ray Magallan, their children, Ray Jr. Matilde, Daniel Magallan, Amber Botsford, great great-grandchildren, Elija and Ava Rodgers of Granbury, TX. his sister, Ninfa Alvarado of Midland, TX. and sister-in-law Maria Gonzales of Midland, TX. Conejo also had many nieces and nephews who loved him very much, numerous relatives and friends.
