Funeral services where family and friends will gather in remembrance of Joel Hernandez, age 49, also known as “Nino Brown” of Lamesa, TX. will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the church of Templo Elim with Pastor Isaac Betancourt officiating. The burial committal will follow to the Dawson County Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the trusted care and direction of Gonzales Funeral Home.
The viewing will be held at Gonzales Funeral Home on Friday, November 28, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with an Inspirational Service starting at 7:00 p.m. at Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel.
Joel passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, November 24, 2025, in Lamesa, TX. He was born on August 17, 1976, in Lamesa, TX. Joel married Lucinda Lou Lugo on July 13, 2018, at the Dawson County Courthouse.
Joel was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Gregorio and Julia Hernandez; his maternal grandparents, Agapito Reyes (AR) and Eva Alonzo.
Joel loved to go camping, he liked to do outside activities, and loved spending precious time with family, he was a Texas Tech fan. Joel loved to listen to Christian music. He was very outgoing, making jokes playing a lot.
Joel is survived by his wife, Lucinda Lugo Hernandez of Lamesa, TX; his five children; son, Gabriel Hernandez (daughter-in-law, Vanessa) of Lamesa, TX., and son, Eliseo Lugo (daughter-in-law, Kate) of Lamesa, TX.; daughter, Daisy Hernandez (son-in-law, Dubb) of Midland, TX., daughter, Jasmine Hernandez of Lamesa, TX., and Jacinda Hernandez (son-in-law, Eric) of Lamesa, TX.; his parents, Abel Hernandez and Sylvia Hernandez of Lamesa, TX.; his sister, Idina Phillips (son-in-law, Jamarr) of Lubbock, TX.; his brother, Caleb Hernandez (daughter-in-law, Cheri) of Lubbock, TX.; his grandsons, Zarian, Jeremiah, Evan, Zadrian, Josiah, Bryson, Zaiden, Jonah, Niko, Riko, Yzel; his grand-daughters, Justice, Liberty, Lilly, Hopey, Penelope; numerous relatives and friends.
