Joe Hernandez's Obituary
A Catholic funeral mass will be celebrated for Joe Hernandez, age 54 of Lubbock, Texas and formerly of Lamesa, Texas at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, August 14, 2015 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with Father Joseph Kurumbel officiating. Burial will follow to Dawson County Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Gonzales Funeral Home of Lamesa.
A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel.
Joe passed away at his residence in Lubbock on Friday, August 7, 2015. He was born on May 22, 1959 in Lubbock.
Joe was a sweet, caring and loving father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother and friend. Joe always did the best for his family. He was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer on July 17, 2015 and he never lost hope. He fought to the very end with a smile on his face.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Abelardo Hernandez, Sr. and Dora Valerio; a sister, Ruby Hernandez.
Joe is survived by his most loving family, his girlfriend, Norma Sanchez of Lubbock, Texas; his three daughters, Emily Hernandez and son-in-law, Frank Rodriguez, Aaliyah Hernandez, Amirah Lea Hernandez, all of Lamesa, Texas; one son, Joe Angel (JoJo) Hernandez of Lamesa, Texas; two step-sons, Scotty Flores and Ruben Flores, both of Lubbock, Texas; his step-daughter, Alejandra Sanchez of Seminole, Texas; three grandchildren, John Ortiz and wife, Megan Ortiz, Timothy Ortiz, Erik Ortiz, all of Lamesa, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Braiden and Hayden Ortiz, both of Lamesa, Texas; one great-grand-daughter, Sofia Humerez of Seminole, Texas; two brothers, Abel Hernandez of Miami, Florida, Rudy Hernandez of Lamesa, Texas; one sister, Susan of Lubbock, Texas; three step-brothers, Jose Hilario Valerio of Lamesa, Texas, Mike Valerio of Omaha, Nebraska, Roy Valerio of Odessa; his nephew, Gilbert Jo Hernandez of Ruidoso, New Mexico.
