Jimmy "Silver Dollar" Hawkins' Obituary
A funeral service was held on Friday, August 1, 2013 at 2:00P.M. at St. John's Baptist Missionary Chruch with Pastor Arvin Medlock officiating. Burial followed at Dawson County Cemetery under the direction of Gonzales Funeral Home.
Jimmy Lee Hawkins, known to many as "Silver Dollar", began his life on February 11, 1942 in Lamesa, Texas. Jimmie Lee was one of twelve children born to Curtis Hawkins and Jesse Mae (Collins) Hawkins. He attended Blackshear schools, and became a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church at an early age. Jimmy Lee later united with and was baptized at St. John's Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by both his parents; eight of his siblings, Raymond Hawkins, Wilbert Hawkins, Ruby Lee James, Lorene "Snook" Shorts, Essie B. Braziel, Curtis Mildred Hawkins, Mary Molett and Geneva McGriff.
Jimmy Lee will forever be remembered and truly missed by his family, friends and loved ones. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: four sons, Dwight LeGrand of Denver, CO, Jimmy "Sadiki" Harris of Lamesa, TX, Curtis "Ping" Hawkins and Stephanie of Denver, CO. and Kenneth Nix of Houston, TX.; two daughters, Angela Hawkins and Billy Wayne of Lamesa, TX. and Genita Hawkins and Damon of Houston, TX.; three sisters, Lillian Hunter of Lamesa, TX., Juanita Simpson of San Diego, CA. and Kathleen Parson and Pink of Lamesa, TX.; fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grand children.
