HELEN M. VERA's Obituary
A Catholic funeral mass will be celebrated for Helen M. Vera age 100 of Lamesa, Texas at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with Father Joseph Kurumbel officiating. Interment will follow to Dawson County Cemetery under the care and direction of Gonzales Funeral Home of Lamesa, Texas.
Visitation will be held on Monday and Tuesday at Gonzales Funeral Home.
A Rosary prayer service will be held on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel.
Helen passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018 in Lubbock, Texas. She was born on May 3, 1918 in DeWitt County, Texas. Helen married Eli Vera, Sr. in 1939 in DeWitt County, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eli Vera, Sr.; her son, Eli Vera, Jr.; her parents, Matilde and Santos Magallan; several siblings
Helen was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, a member of the ladies church organization of Las Guadalupanas. She enjoyed sewing, was involved in farming and had a sincere passion for the migrant worker families. Helen was an avid fan of The Texas Rangers baseball team.
Helen is survived by her children, son Fred Vera of Lamesa, daughter, Mary Freeman of San Antonio, Texas, son, Lupe Vera of Denton, Texas, Joe Vera of Lamesa; her sister, Lola of Corpus Christi, Texas; 19 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 38 great-great-grandchildren.
