GENOVEVA V. REYES's Obituary
A private Catholic funeral mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Genoveva V. Reyes age 98 of Lamesa, Texas at 10:00 a.m. Thursday May 7, 2020 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with Father Joseph Kurumbel officiating. Interment will follow to the Dawson County Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Gonzales Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 and Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Gonzales Funeral Home with Rosary prayer services at 7:00 p.m. In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, and as mandated by State and local officials, service gatherings will be limited. Genoveva passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2020 in Lamesa. She was born on June 19, 1921 in Hobson, TX. Genoveva married Jesus S. Reyes on November 20, 1943.
Genoveva was preceded in death by her husband, Jesus S. Reyes; daughter, Anita Ortiz; great grandson, R. J. Granado, Jr.; brothers, Albino Bara, Thomas Vara, and Manuel Bara; sisters, Juanita Salazar, and Carolina Holguin.
Genoveva was a homemaker. At a young age together with her family, she worked in the cotton fields. She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, the women’s organization of Las Guadalupanas, and attended the Charismatic movement. Genoveva enjoyed cooking for her family. She liked playing Bingo, checkers, Uno, and Jenga.
Genoveva is survived by her family, her son, Antonio (Tony) Reyes of Lamesa; her daughters, Elva Gutierrez and husband, Steve Gutierrez of Lamesa, and Gloria Reyes of Levelland, TX.; her son-in-law, Armando Ortiz of Lamesa; brothers, Juan Bara and wife, Janie of Lovington, NM.; sisters, Epifania Garza and husband, Martin Garza, Sr. of San Angelo, TX., and Adelfa Doporto and husband, Edward Doporto of Lovington, NM.; 6 grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren, and 12 great-grand-grandchildren; numerous relatives and friends.
