GENARO GARCIA SR.'s Obituary
A Catholic Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Genaro Garcia, Sr. age 93 of Lamesa, Texas. at 2:30 p.m., on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with Father Sylvester Dsouza officiating. The burial committal will follow to the Dawson County Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the trusted care and direction of Gonzales Funeral Home.
The viewing will be held at Gonzales Funeral Home on Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Friday, May 30, 2025, with a Rosary prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel.
Genaro passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, in Lamesa, Texas. Genaro Garcia, Sr. was born in Brady, Texas, on July 10, 1931, to Pedro and Domitilla Garcia. On May 10, 1952, he married his beloved wife, Rose Cantu, and together they shared 73 wonderful years of marriage. Genaro was a resident of Lamesa, Texas since 1940.
Genaro dedicated 45 years of his life in the cotton industry as a ginner, working hard and providing for his family. He was a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, whose love and kindness touched the lives of many.
He enjoyed music, dancing, and spending time with his grandkids. Genaro loved his grandchildren dearly; they were his world. Every time his grandkids visited, he made sure to reward them with a dollar for a Coke, a small but meaningful gesture he never missed, no matter the situation.
He is lovingly remembered by his five children: Lupe Garcia, Alfredo Garcia (Delia), Essie Kneisley (Claude), Genaro Garcia, Jr. (Elizabeth), and Melinda Gonzales (Joe). Genaro is also survived by four sisters: Aurelia Rodriguez, Marcella Garza, Isabel (Chavela) Lopez, and Juana Gonzales.
Genaro was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Domitilla Garcia, and his siblings, Juan Garcia, Leandro Garcia, Oralia Zamaripas, Mercedes Lozano, and Maria Castillo.
Genaro’s legacy lives on through his 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. His family will aways treasure the warmth, strength, and love he shared with them.
