A private family Celebration of Life funeral service for Emily Cantu age 85 of Lamesa, TX. were held on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Chacko Thadathil offering a Catholic funeral blessing. Funeral Arrangements were under the care and direction of Gonzales Funeral Home.
Emily passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 in Lamesa, TX. She was born on September 6,1937 in Big Spring, TX. She married Simon Cantu on July 17, 1954 in Lamesa, TX.
Emily was preceded in death by her husband, Simon Cantu; per parents, Simon and Teresa Alvarado; her sister, Lucia Querino.
Emily worked for 30 years as a seamstress. She enjoyed gardening, cooking for her family. Emily enjoyed traveling to Houston, TX. to visit family members.
Emily is survived by her children, her son, Chris Cantu of Lubbock, TX.; her daughters, Bonnie Acosta, Sandy Ramon and husband, Paul Ramon, Sarah Cantu, all of Lamesa, TX., Grace Almaguer and husband, Lee Almaguer of Midland, TX., and Sonya Vera and husband, Chris Vera of McKinney, TX.; her brother, Simon Alvarado Jr. of Odessa, TX.; her sisters, Magdalena Vasquez, Nora De La Garza, Amy Alvarado, all of Lamesa, TX., Teresa Martinez of Dallas, TX., and Barbara Alvarado of California; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; several relatives and friends. Emily was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church of Lamesa, TX.
