CHARLIE BROWN's Obituary
Funeral services for Charlie Brown, 77 of Lamesa, Texas will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Lamesa. Interment will follow to Dawson County Cemetery. Funeral arrangments are under the care and direction of Gonzales Funerall Home.
Viewing will be held on Thursday and Friday at Gonzales Funeral Home with a family visitation hour from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2018.
Charlie went home to be with the Lord and his wife on Friday, January 26, 2018.
Charlie Brown was born on December 9, 1940 to Allen Brown and Amanda Webber Brown. He graduated from Blackshear High School in Lamesa in 1959. Charlie enlisted in the United States Army in 1963 and served until 1965. He later started working at the United States Post Office as a custodian. While working at the post office he met and married Cora Ivory Brown on July 10, 1976. He also worked as a Reserve Police Officer for the Lamesa Police Department and a deputy reserve for the Dawson County Sheriff's Department. After 33 years Charlie retired from the post office as a mail carrier and began working for the Dawson County Senior Citizens Center delivering Meals-on-Wheels. His favorite past times were reading the newspaper and watching sports. He spent many years as an unpire and a referee with the Lamesa Little League and the Lamesa Boys & Girls Club. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Lamesa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Brown, his son, Geoffry Brown; his grandson, Dominque Adams; his parents, Allen and Amanda Brown; his three brothers, Horace Brown, James Brown, Melvin Brown; his four sisters, Mary Helen Brown, Virgra Johnson, Louise Bell, Rosie Lee Brown.
He leaves to cherish his memories three daughters, Ebony Benton (Al) of Pecos, Texas, Pamela McDonald Kirkendale (Arion) of Arlington, Texas, Candy Hunter of Lamesa, Texas; two sons, Joe Williams of Atlanta, GA and Chauncey Hunter (Barbara) of Lubbock, Texas; two sisters, Rebecca Mason of Lamesa, Texas, Anna Brown of Arlington, Texas; one brother, Earnest Brown (Francine) of Midland, Texas; 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
