A Catholic funeral mass will be celebrated for Abel Cervantes age 67 of Lamesa, TX. at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with Father Joseph Thanavilil officiating. Burial will follow at the Dawson County Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the trusted care and direction of Gonzales Funeral Home. The viewing will be held at Gonzales Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday, November 7, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with Rosary prayer services at 7:00 p.m. at Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel. Abel passed away surrounded by his family at his home in Lamesa, TX. on Sunday, November 3, 2024. He was born on September 15, 1957, in Lamesa, TX. Abel was preceded in death by his father, Lasaro Cervantes, Sr. Abel was a loving son, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and brother-in-law who touched the lives of many. He attended Lamesa High School and was known for his kind heart and willingness to help others. Abel loved supporting his family and showing up in every way he could. He had one true best friend and that was his dog Bear. He had a passion for softball and dancing and was a huge Texas Tech and Dallas Cowboy fan. As a devoted Catholic, he attended Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Lubbock, TX. For over 40 years, Abel worked as a general contractor, a profession he loved and excelled in. His dedication and skill will be remembered by all who knew him. Abel will be deeply missed by his entire family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Abel is survived by his companion, Margie Cervantez of Lubbock, TX.; his best friend Bear (dog); his mother, Geronima Cervantes of Lamesa, TX.; his sons, Abel Gutierrez (wife, Esther) of Glen Rose, TX., and, Isaiah Gutierrez of Lamesa, TX.; his daughter, Anastacia of Lamesa, TX.; sons, Eric and Eddie Cervantes; brothers, Robert Cervantes, Sr., George Cervantes, and Lasaro Cervantes, Jr., all of Lamesa, TX., Tony Cervantes (wife, Madeline Cervantes), of Lubbock, TX., and Richard Cervantes of Lamesa, TX.; sisters, Rita Gomez (husband, Joe Gomez), Grace De La Cruz (husband, Filiberto De La Cruz) of Fallbrook, CA., and Veronica Hernandez (husband, David Hernandez) of Lamesa, TX.; 14 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and numerous friends. The pallbearers are Robert Cervantes, Jr., Chris Ortiz, Kendra Cervantes, Alphonso Gomez, Lorenzo De La Cruz, Agustin De La Cruz, Isaiah Cervantes, Kaleb Cervantes. The honorary Pallbearers are Christian Hernandez, Nattie Hernandez, Lesly Cervantes, Meagan Cervantes, Alexandria Molina.
