A Catholic funeral mass service will be celebrated for Guadalupe N. Chavez, age 106 of Lamesa, Texas, at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 13, 2018 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with Father Joseph Kurumbel officiating. Interment will follow to Dawson County Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Gonzales Funeral Home. Viewing will be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 11th and 12th with Rosary services at 7:00 p.m. at Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel. Guadalupe passed away on Thursday August 9, 2018 in Lamesa. She was born on July 26, 1912 in Oakville, Texas. Guadalupe married Esequiel Chavez on September 21, 1982 in Lamesa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Esequiel Chavez; her son, Andes Carbajal; her grandsons, Andres Carbajal, Jr., Juan Jose Guzman, Benito Guzman, Frank Cortez, Jr.; Raul Cortez,Victor Carbajal, Jr.; her grand-daughter, Rebecca Zuniga; her great-grandson, Carlos Guzman; her great-great-grand-daughters, Gabriela Guzman and Anastacia Ybarra. In her earlier years, she enjoyed working as a seamstress for your family and for the public up until her 90's. Guadalupe liked gardening and loved the company of her family, friends and her various pets. In 2016 the City of Lamesa recognized Mrs. Chavez by Proclaiming July 26 as "Guadalupe Chavez Day" and on July 26, 2017 The State of Texas House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, congratulated Guadalulpe Chavez on her 105th birthday by (H.R. No. 348) by RESOLUTION. . Guadalupe is survived by her loving family, her son, Victor Carbajal of Georgewest, Texas and Lauro (Larry) Carbajal of Lamesa, Texas; her daughters, Maria Cortez and Epifania Perez, both of Beeville, Texas; family members she raised, her grand-daughter, Maggie Duran of Dallas, Texas, her great-grand-daughter, Maxine Ybarra of Lamesa, Texas, her great-grand-son, Johnny Guzman of Lamesa, Texas; her great-great-grand-daughter, Nikki Guzman of Lamesa, Texas; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, great-great-great-grandchildren and relatives and friends. Pallbearers, Andres Guzman, Joe Ybarra, Jr., Ricky Duran, Jose Ochoa, Armando Morales, Tyler Ruiz.
