    BERNADINO (Ben) CAVAZOS

    March 5, 1920 - April 5, 2017

    A Catholic funeral mass will be celebrated for Bernadino ( Ben) Cavazos age 97 of Lamesa, Texas will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 8, 2017 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with Father Joseph Kurumbel officiating and assisted by Deacon Daniel Valenzuela. Interment with US Military honors will follow in Dawson County Cemetery's Redbud Veteran's section. Funeral arrangments are under the care and direction of Gonzales Funeral Home of Lamesa, Texas. Viewing and visitation were held on Thursday and Friday with a Rosary service recited on Friday at Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel. Ben Cavazos passed away on Wednesday April 5, 2017 in Lamesa, Texas. He was born on March 5, 1920 in Zapata, Texas to Bernardino and Virginia Cavazos. Ben served in the US Army during World War II. He was wounded during the European Theatre. Ben flew his US Flag daily at his home with pride. In his earlier years, Ben worked as a "Marquetero" and later for Bruton's Manufacturing as a painter. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Cavazos; his grand daughter, Jackie Conde-Cavazos; his parents; all of his brothers and sisters. Ben is survived by his family, his sons, Rudy Cavazos and wife, LeDae Cavazos of Lamesa, Texas, David Cavazos and wife, Sylvia Benavides of Lamesa, Texas; his daughters, Dora Martinez and husband, Fred Martinez of Cedar Park, Texas, Beatrice Hernandez and husband, Ramon Hernandez of Lamesa, Texas, Lucy Hernandez and husband, Ismael Hernandez of Lamesa, Texas, Mary Gonzales and husband, Bobby G. Gonzales of Lamesa, Texas, Linda Cavazos Morales of Lamesa, Texas. 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granchild; numerous nephews, nieces, and friends.
